8th Annual Feast for the Eyes Juried Exhibition

Friday April 9, 2010 opening gala and Awards Ceremony from 7- 9 pm

"This exhibition features arts and crafts of emerging artists of all fine art mediums from Bruce and Grey counties, this unique exhibition, featuring the arts and crafts of emerging artists of all fine art mediums from Bruce and Grey Counties, serves as a venue for the development of regional artists while providing an opportunity for a vital community fund-raiser.

Feast for the Eyes links the mental, creative and spiritual benefits of art to another aspect of our basic needs: food for the hungry in our community. All artists who submit artwork to the jury for consideration are asked to donate a non-perishable food item to benefit the local food bank. All visitors to the gala and month long exhibition are also asked to donate a non-perishable food item for the community’s hungry.

Additionally, the opening night gala’s silent auction will raise funds for Southampton Arts Society, a registered charity founded in 1957, as well as the food bank. Bid to your heart’s content on fine art, gift baskets, gift certificates, giftware and collectibles with a “foodie” theme, to help bring awareness of the importance of the community food bank. Refreshments will be served and are sponsored by Harrigan’s 100 Mile Market/Red & White Store, Southampton."

See the web site for more details. Submission deadline is Saturday April 3, 2010

December and early January at the Galleries

Winter's Gift continues at the Blue Mountain Foundation for The Arts in Collingwood, until January 2nd. Hours are Wednesday to Saturday 11am - 5pm. Don't miss this show of talented area artists for great gift ideas.

Also in Collingwood the Level Gallery's Feature Artist until January 15 is Mark Berens. His oils reflect the rugged beauty of Georgian Bay. Mark has a bold style making use of graphic brush strokes, dramatic lighting and composition. A must see, I was very excited when I saw these... definitely worth a visit.

In Durham at the Durham Art Gallery Tony Luciani: Transitions continues until January 10, 2010.
The gallery is open December 29, 30, 31 from 1-4pm. After the holidays regular hours return Wed-Fri 10-5pm, Sat-Sun 1-4pm and Thursday 7-8pm. Tony now lives in Durham and his work reflects his progression to living in a rural setting.

Please refer to The Art Map listings for many other area galleries, there you'll see images of work with open hours listed, links to their web sites, making planning your day trip easy.

Olympic Torch Run

The Olympic Torch is coming to Grey and Bruce! Check out the Olympic web site. On December 28th the torch bearers will be covering a lot of this area. The torch run will begin its journey in Orangeville in the morning, travel to Shelburne, Mount Forest, Durham, Hanover, Kincardine, Port Elgin, Southampton and end in Owen Sound in the evening.

After that the torch run makes its way to Collingwood and then zig-zags up to Midland, down and east to Barrie then up to Orillia and Huntsville.

The web site has interesting stories about torch bearers, where they are and what celebrations are taking place. Be sure to take in this once in a lifetime event.

This is a photo from Thornbury on a very cold Dec 29th morning. (if I remember correctly)
