SAS 50th Anniversary Lecture Series

For the first time in its 50-year history, the Southampton Art School is sponsoring a series of seven talks Celebrating Art. All lectures will be held in the theatre at the Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre on Victoria Street in Southampton, from 7 to 9 pm.

The School's mandate has always included community involvement. To mark 50 years of providing art instruction in all its wonderful variety given by the best available artist-teachers, we looked for a way to expand this involvement to a wider community and came up with seven remarkable practioners of their art, each of whom has something new and intriguing to say.

May 15 - Stephanie Rayner - Art, Science and the Spiritual
May 29 - Allan Smutylo - Wild Places, Wild Hearts
June 26 - Douglas Purdon - Preserving Bruce County's History in Painting
July 3 - Phil the forcaster Chadwick - Southampton, CSI -- Creative Scene Investigation
July 10 - Judy Thompson - Women in Canadian Art
August 21 - Michael Cannon - The First Fifty Years in Photography
September 4 - Paul Carroll - Bruce County, a visual art history

The Loft Gallery is located at 183 Marsh Street in Clarksburg just south of Thornbury. The gallery will showcase vibrant original art from both local and other Ontario artists.
Come in for a glass of wine and savour both the sights and sounds surrounding you!

Entertainment: The Charlie Bell Trio
Join Charlie Bell on tenor sax and clarinet for an intimate evening of jazz standards and styles from ballads and bossas to hard swingin' blues and be-bop. Charlie is joined by Jack McFadden on acoustic bass and Andy Harasymczuk on guitar.

Refreshments. Shuttle buses will transport you from one venue to another throughout the evening.

Art of Nature - Green Living - Jon Butler Photography

"It is an honour to have one of my photos included in the Art of Nature Exhibit and Sale and I am hoping it will help to raise some cash for a worthwhile cause." says photographer Jon Butler.

The exhibit and sale is part of The Green Living Show April 27 - 29 at the Direct Energy Centre, Exhibition Place, Toronto. Guest speakers include Al Gore, Margaret Atwood, Dr. Roberta Bondar, Daryl Hannah, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and David Suzuki, just to name a few.
