Blue Mountain Foundation for the Arts

Is anyone else as surprised as I am that BMFA is going to close their retail location? I take that to mean that they will not open as a gallery space. I'm sure a lot of artists in the area will be disappointed. I understand they will be "revitalizing their Arts Centre" to offer a broader range of programming in this region. They are continuing with activities and events. I wish them well.

They plan to return to their origins and be stronger than ever.

The retail operation will close on September 30, 2008.

The Art Map Support

The Art Map was created to promote professional artists in small towns and rural settings in this area. Please support these local talented artists, who are creating amazing original art. Purchase their work for yourself and give as gifts to others. We list art shows, art schools, tours and art suppliers who would appreciate your support as well.

If you use and like this web site as a reference guide of local artists please support us by telling the artists that you saw them here on The Art Map web site or on The Art Map print version. I imagine that The Art Map is well liked. When I'm out on the road delivering it, people are excited to see it and say "Oh good ... The Art Map. Who's on it this year?"

If you have interesting stories while out on the road using The Art Map please email them to me and I will post them here ... anonymously. If you don't mind your name being used let me know.

Wild for the Arts - September 21, 22, 23

Wild for the Arts is a festival that celebrates nature as a source of inspiration for creativity. I am proud to be able to participate in the festival this year as an artist. As the publisher of The Art Map, I don't get an opportunity to paint as much as I'd like or participate in art shows for that matter. This event gives me a chance to do many things that I really enjoy; create art, meet new people, hang out with other artists and camp at MacGregor Point.

There will be hikes, workshops, Campground Studio Tour art show and sale, performers Friday and Saturday evening. Check out the event web site for more info.

I hope to see you there.

The show will draw heavily upon the permanent collection of the Tom Thomson Art Gallery, featuring works by Tom Thomson, George Thomson, Flo Campbell, William Parrott, Roly Fenwick, Kris Rosar, Lorne Wagman, Alan Glicksman, Charles Meanwell and others. The show will also include invited submissions from contemporary artists that live and work in Owen Sound .

Visions of La Cloche September 7 to October 13

La Cloche Photograph Exhibit
Visions of La Cloche

"Simple but very complex", "Zen photography" and "Photos that invoke spirituality" are some of the phrases used to describe photographer Jon Butler's upcoming exhibit at the Centennial Museum & Gallery in Sheguiandah on Manitoulin Island.

Butler, a resident of Willisville, is a retired newspaper executive
who changed his clothes to enjoy the passing seasons of life. He has
been capturing and enjoying the light of La Cloche for more than 25
years. Concentrating on solitary, contemplative landscapes and
atmospheric effects his analog photographs reflect years of meditation
on the subject matter and draw viewers into the light of La Cloche.

The opening reception at the Centennial Museum & Gallery, Sheguiandah will be on Friday, September 7 at 7 p.m. There will be a second reception on Saturday, October 6 from 2 p.m. to 3:30. Butler will at both receptions and all are welcome.
