Olympic Torch Run

The Olympic Torch is coming to Grey and Bruce! Check out the Olympic web site. On December 28th the torch bearers will be covering a lot of this area. The torch run will begin its journey in Orangeville in the morning, travel to Shelburne, Mount Forest, Durham, Hanover, Kincardine, Port Elgin, Southampton and end in Owen Sound in the evening.

After that the torch run makes its way to Collingwood and then zig-zags up to Midland, down and east to Barrie then up to Orillia and Huntsville.

The web site has interesting stories about torch bearers, where they are and what celebrations are taking place. Be sure to take in this once in a lifetime event.

This is a photo from Thornbury on a very cold Dec 29th morning. (if I remember correctly)

Nature's Millworks Event

June 20-July 5
James Swartz art show and sale at Nature's Millworks.
Swartz takes amazing macro photographs of flowers. His images of buildings, animals and people show his talent for composition and an eye for colour. His talent doesn't stop there. He is also an accomplished artist. See samples on his web site.

Why not make a trip to Paisley to visit Nature's Millworks. This building is a former flour mill and that in itself is worth the trip. Built in 1885 after the first mill was destroyed by fire. The mill has 5 floors! Check their web site for more history on the mill.

Paul and Helen Crysler purchased this property in 2000 and have worked steadily on the building since.

Wild for the Arts - September 21, 22, 23

Wild for the Arts is a festival that celebrates nature as a source of inspiration for creativity. I am proud to be able to participate in the festival this year as an artist. As the publisher of The Art Map, I don't get an opportunity to paint as much as I'd like or participate in art shows for that matter. This event gives me a chance to do many things that I really enjoy; create art, meet new people, hang out with other artists and camp at MacGregor Point.

There will be hikes, workshops, Campground Studio Tour art show and sale, performers Friday and Saturday evening. Check out the event web site for more info.

I hope to see you there.

La Cloche Photograph Exhibit

Visions of La Cloche: Ontario's Spiritual Mountains

La Cloche photographer Jon Butler is exhibiting 'Visions of La Cloche: Ontario's Spiritual Mountains' at the Temiskaming Art Gallery in Haileybury from February 26 to April 14.

This exhibit of La Cloche photographs provides a window to the way the landscape reveals spirituality. It is a natural inborn spirituality that allows one more awareness, empathy and conscience.

Butler, a retired newspaperman who changed his clothes to enjoy the passing seasons of life, has been capturing and enjoying the light of La Cloche for more than 25 years. Concentrating on solitary, contemplative landscapes and atmospheric effects his photographs reflect years of meditation on the subject matter and draw viewers into the light of La Cloche.

The La Cloche area (www.lacloche.ca), with its quartzite mountains, crystal clear lakes, windswept pines and abundant wildlife, is located in Northern Ontario on the north shore of Georgian Bay with Killarney Park in the east and the town of Spanish in the west. Butler lives in Willisville in the heart of the La Cloche Mountains.

In 2007, Butler's solo exhibit 'Visions of La Cloche: Ontario's Spiritual Mountains' will be at: The Temiskaming Art Gallery, Haileybury, Feb. 26 – April 14
Propeller Centre for the Visual Arts, 984 Queen St. W., Toronto, May 23 – June 12
Centennial Museum & Gallery, Sheguiandah, Sept. 7 – Oct.13
