Thirty minutes after the Battle of the Brushes’ first round, they appeared… An army of sorts, victorious, brushes in hand, having all created “spontaneous” art! And then – another group came forth, and suddenly we had four winners! A tie for first place, and a tie for second! An historical first! Congratulations to (in alphabetical order) Mary Lou Leitch and Tracey Sinclair for first; and Sandy Brand and Virginia Killin, for second. Tracey's painting is shown above. ..

Every June for the last 5 years, the South Simcoe Arts Council has hosted the Battle of the Brushes. This year, they will do it again!
Lisa Rosati, (SSAC Coordinator) describes the Battle as “a sport for visual artists”. She says participating is an achievement in and of itself. ..

On April 16th, The South Simcoe Arts Council (SSAC) Wordsmiths won Best Costumes at The Next Step’s Grate Groan-up Spelling Bee! Dian Bowers was an amazing Queen of Hearts, and Charlene Ryan, an incredible Mad Hatter. As Alice, all I really had to do, was be there wearing the beautiful blue skirt and white apron that Dian kindly made for me. We effortlessly transformed into Wordsmith Wonderland. ..
